What is Arweave?
Arweave is a decentralized and cost-effective solution for storing data in a secure and private manner. Describing itself as “a collectively owned hard drive that never forgets”, it mainly hosts “the permaweb” — a permanent and decentralized web with various community-driven applications and platforms.

Users can access the storage using the Arweave extension on supported browsers, including Google Chrome, Brave, Edge, and Firefox.

Arweave’s main goal is to offer affordable and secure decentralized storage for data, while also ensuring quick accessibility and protection against data tampering.

The network utilizes its own digital currency called AR to incentivize individuals to share their hard drive space with others. Developers use AR tokens to create and launch dApps via SmartWeave. Furthermore, the team is continuously striving to provide additional use cases, including governance etc.

The project was initially introduced as Archain in August 2017 and was later rebranded to Arweave in February 2018, with its official launch taking place in June of the same year.

Keystone’s Integration with ArConnect

With ArConnect, users can:
- Monitor their AR and other token balances
- Discover community-specific information about the tokens they hold
- Send/Receive AR and other various tokens
- Authorize transactions from Arweave-based applications WITHOUT sharing their private keys
- Track all inbound and outbound transactions to and from the wallet
- Archive web pages

The functionalities of ArConnect in the Arweave ecosystem is similar to that of what Metamask is to Ethereum and other EVM chains.

With this integration, users can now effortlessly engage with dApps on the Arweave mainnet in a secure manner by linking their Keystone to the Arconnect Extension.

This collaboration merges the convenience and accessibility of a software wallet with the safety and security of a hardware wallet, giving Arweave users the benefits of both. Moreover, since no other hardware wallet currently supports Arweave dApps, this integration further enhances the security of the entire Arweave ecosystem.

Current Keystone owners will have to upgrade their firmware to the latest version to be able to connect their Keystone Essential or Pro to ArConnect’s browser extension. Existing Keystone users can refer to our firmware upgrading guide here & update their firmware here.
